The Paul Reynolds Community Centre is a new state-of-the-art multi-use Recreational Facility replacing the aged Wedgewood Community Centre.

The new Community Centre / Recreational Facility includes space for a dedicated youth room, an outdoor playground, a fitness area and several multi-purpose spaces designed to meet the needs of the community.

A few key feature of this new facility are listed below:
- a 25-meter lane pool,
- a Leisure Pool with kids play area
- two waterslides
- a 6700sf regulation height Gymnasium
- a 1500sf of dedicated children’s area
- a 1500sf of dedicated senior’s space.

Additionally, the new facility will have office spaces, visitor viewing areas and other multi-purpose spaces.

The Recreational Facility also incorporates energy efficient technology, including a geothermal heat source combined with a top of the line heat recovery system. The unique design, which incorporates green space, modern materials and cutting edge structural engineering and design will create an extremely efficient system that will save money in operating costs and reduce the City’s energy consumption.

The Structural system consists of cast-in-place concrete foundation system, concrete columns and concrete mezzanine.

The Natatorium and Gymnasium roof structures consists of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) panels wood panels supported by a series of deep Structural Steel Girders that span the Natatorium space. The remaining roof structures are conventional steel framed structures.


Scope of Services
DBA was responsible for design of the Foundation System and the Structural Steel for the building.

DBA is also involved in Contract Administration for the project during construction.

Design Challenges
Complicated roof slopes and geometries presented a design challenge. The solution, DBA completed a 3D structural model of the entire building structural for analysis and design.
