The Long Term Care (LTC) Complex consists of two Patient Towers approximately 140,000sf each. The Patient Towers are connected to a central Core Building and a Utility Annex, which houses an emergency generator and infrastructure support services for the complex.

The LTC Complex was designed to meet LEED certification and includes space for recreation therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy and spirituality and will replace the long term Level III and Level IV beds associated with the current Hoyles Escasoni Complex.

All buildings of the LTC Complex are linked by way of underground service tunnels.

The LTC Complex consists of the following;

- East Patient Tower with a total floor area in excess of 140,000sf. The Structure consists of 4 levels of conventional steel and concrete floor structure plus a full storey mechanical penthouse. The roof structure consists of structural steel beams and OWSJ with metal decking.

- West Patient Tower with a total floor area in excess of 140,000sf. The Structure consists of 4 levels of conventional steel and concrete floor structure plus a full storey mechanical penthouse. The roof structure consists of structural steel beams and OWSJ with metal decking.

- Core Building with a total floor area of approximately 65,000sf. The Structure consists of 3 levels of conventional steel and concrete floor structure plus a full storey mechanical penthouse. The roof structure consists of structural steel beams and OWSJ with metal decking.

- Utility Annex with a total floor area of approximately 6,500sf. The Structure consists of single levels of conventional steel and concrete floor structure. The roof structure consists of structural steel beams and OWSJ with metal decking.

Scope of Services
DBA was the structural consultant for this Design-Bid-Build project. Responsibilities included design of Structural Steel Super Structure and the Foundation System for the LTC Complex.

DBA also provided Contract Administration services throughout the lengthy construction period.

Design Challenges
This Design-Bid-Build project was phased due to the size and complexity of the project.

This required extensive coordination throughout design and construction of the project.
